Jeju Azit
2021-2022
Developed in tandem with Seoul Azit, Jeju Azit responds to a different — but no less urgent — urban condition. While not as visibly affected by gentrification as Seoul, Jeju Island continues to suffer from overtourism, unchecked development, and the creeping erosion of its natural and cultural heritage.
This project reconsiders how we engage with space on an island where land, memory, and ecology are deeply intertwined. Through slow observation and subjective mapping, Jeju Azit invites individuals to document their own “hideout places” — intimate, value-driven sites of retreat, care, and meaning within the rapidly transforming landscape. Jeju Azit encourages a different kind of attention — one that resists speed, embraces locality, and reminds us that presence itself can be a form of preservation.
